This week marked a very significant milestone in my life. 20 years ago, on September 29, 1999 I stepped foot…

Instagram post 2198782878825776313_17996339 Happy Birthday to my second mama. Oh, how thankful I am for this woman! She is a display of internal and external beauty. She’s a picture of strength and humility. She loves so well. It’s such an honor to be her daughter-in-love.

Instagram post 2197352005001691894_17996339 We can remember Jesus without baking cookies, going caroling, reading every single advent devotional, going to Christmas parties, or drinking eggnog (ok, I have had some eggnog). Jesus can be remembered and celebrated every moment of every day. He can be remembered when I snuggle with my kiddos on the couch before breakfast. He can be remembered when lighting a tiny candle or seeing a sprig of greenery. He can be remembered when we delight in seeing the light others have put up even if we can’t get around to it this year...
.

There is never a time or reason when Jesus is not able to be remembered and celebrated. Because there is never a moment when the reality of His presence has left us.

Instagram post 2196640714796691717_17996339 She wanted a pink cake with snowflakes. I thought I would “cheat” this birthday and get a box. Normally I enjoy baking from scratch, but this would cut prep time, and the cake would be super easy to decorate... 😐
.
Well, I don’t know how it’s possible to fail a boxed cake, but it is. This cake was more crumbly than almost any gluten-free cake I’ve ever made. Both cakes broke long before they came out of the pans, and it was so bad I couldn’t even frost the sides (and all the while I repented of every time I’ve had a critical thought while watching the Great British Baking Show). I was pretty sad that I had made such a disaster of my child’s birthday cake.
.
But... she thought it was wonderful. It was pink, and it had snowflakes on it. She didn’t care that the sides weren’t frosted or that it was falling apart. She saw the colors and tasted the flavors, and felt loved because mom had given her the cake she asked for.
.
The result doesn’t need to be perfect for someone to feel loved. Sometimes they just need to see that intentional, loving effort was made to show them they are appreciated and valued. And children are especially good at modeling this. Thanks, my sweet Jeva, for enthusiastically accepting my less-than perfect offering of love.

Instagram post 2195939046736078738_17996339 It’s been pretty quiet on the book front the past couple of months due to moving and other logistics.
.
BUT! I’m thrilled to announce that the gears are turning, and we’re moving full steam ahead yet again! In preparation for the launch we’re doing a Kickstarter campaign to get the word out and help with some of the upfront costs of getting it out into the world! It’ll start on Monday, December 16! You can sign up for updates on my book page (link in bio), and there *may* just be a bonus or two to those who are on my email list and give toward the Kickstarter campaign 😉. More details to come in the days ahead! (Also, if you signed up to receive the first chapter of my book, you’re already on the list!)
.
THANK YOU in advance!!

Instagram post 2195346244159438272_17996339 It’s our darling Jeneva’s 3rd Birthday. I’ve been remembering the events surrounding her birth, praising the Lord for His hand on her little life. This child is so spunky, so sweet, full of love for others, dances any time she hears music, has a sensitive little heart, and a goofy streak that leaves everyone in stitches. Jeneva Noël, our “Pursuer of Peace,” has been a gift to our family in more ways than we can count. We love you, Jeva, more than words can express.

Instagram post 2192260702668776140_17996339 Just about every day I see the message from the world that the key to overcoming insecurity is by loving myself more, putting myself first, realizing my self-worth, and focusing on my good and potential (basically trying to fight pride with… a different side of pride). But there’s a massive problem with this. When I turn my eyes inward, elevating myself and trying to search out just how good I am, I quickly start to see how many ways I fall short of this pedestal I’m placing myself on… which causes more insecurity, and more frantic effort to do enough or be enough (or at least try to make myself look good in others’ eyes). And before I know it, I’m trapped in a vicious cycle of deeper and deeper insecurity and false hope. Because security can never be found by depending on my sinful, insufficient self.
The cure for insecurity is finding security in Jesus.
